What is Awana? What exactly does it mean? The answers to those questions are in 2 Timothy 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth”. It is an acronym from this verse: Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed.
Ok so now we know where the name comes from what exactly is Awana? Awana is a Christian club for boys and girls from ages 3 years old all the way up to 18 years old. The club is broken down into different age groups. Cubbies are 3-5 year olds it is a club for preschoolers before they start Kindergarten. Sparks are for Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Truth and Training is for all kids 3rd - 6th grade. Trek is for our middle school kids 7th-8th grade. Journey 24/7 is for the high school kids. Awana meets on Sunday afternoons from 3:30-5:30, Sept - May.
What does Awana do? The clubs are broken down into 3 different segments. Book Time (this would be when the clubbers recite the memory verses they have been learning to earn awards). Council time (This is our time when the leaders/directors share Bible stories and or age appropriate lesson plans). Game Time we have team building games set for each one of the groups in Awana. Our game guys have games prepared for each group when they come into the gym or go out to Hagemann park. You want to hear some noise come on down and watch our game times. The gym will be rocking.
What makes Awana special? Awana is a high energy club. We get wild and crazy with some of our themes. Kids are all about energy and movement. They like fun and wacky things that they don’t normally get. Some of the themes we may have are Wet & wild night, Barf night (Bring a Real Friend), Hero’s of the Faith dress up night just to mention a few of the themes we have done. We also have some special events each year: Awana Grand Prix (pine box derby car racing), Veggie night (each clubber uses vegetables to create something), Awana Luau potluck, Food drive to support our pantry, etc..
So how do you get involved in Awana? If you have a child you can register them starting in August by going to the Trinity website www.trinitylivermore.org or stop by the church office to pick up registration forms. We are always in need of more leaders and we can certainly train anyone who loves God, loves kids, and wants to join this wonderful team. For more information on Awana call the church office or contact the Commander Tim Augustyn.
BECAUSE KIDS MATTER TO GOD!
Cubbies® celebrates the spiritual potential of preschoolers (3- to 5-year olds) by helping them develop respect for God, His Son and His Word. Preschoolers can hardly wait for their next Cubbies club meeting. Whether it's the fun puppets, the exciting games or all their Cubbies friends, they simply love it. At Story Time each week, preschoolers learn about God – the greatness of His love and His Word – and about His Son, Jesus Christ, the promised Savior. Non-competitive games build excitement and reinforce Story Time lesson themes.
Cubbies helps you lead your child to God early so your child will respect and trust Him for life.
Sparks® ignites the curiosity of early elementary-age kids to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ. To many children in kindergarten to second grade, Sparks is the highlight of the week! They love their red vests, the exciting games and spending time with leaders and friends.
Sparks is divided into three years, each with a unique rank: HangGlider®, WingRunner® and SkyStormer™. Each year, Sparks clubbers:
- explore the biographies of people of the Bible from a new portion of Scripture
- memorize Bible verses
- complete handbook activities
The handbooks, combined with Large Group Time lessons from the WHO Do I Need to Know From the Bible series, take your child on a journey through the entire Bible!
T&T engages third- through sixth-graders by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ's grace.
Handbooks and large-group lessons deepen a child's knowledge about God and His Word and teach how to put that knowledge into action in everyday life.
T&T is different from other Awana programs. It is comprised of two clubs with distinct curriculum, uniforms and awards:
- T&T Ultimate Adventure™ for third and fourth grades
- T&T Ultimate Challenge™ for fifth and sixth grades
Trek® challenges middle-school students to consider their destiny in Christ and pursue it through life application of God's Word. Three complete years' worth of material supports your 7th-8th grade middle-school ministry.
Journey® establishes high school students as lifelong disciples through a deep study of God's Word, mobilizing them to live with godly perspective and evident faith. Four complete years' worth of material supports your 9th-12th grade high-school ministry. Additional products, training materials, and awards are available.
